RBI Publishes ₹28,000 Crore Government Stock Auction Results; 2041 Security Clears at 7.0668% Yield
Read Time:
The Reserve Bank of India has published the full results of the Government of India dated-securities auction conducted on August 21, 2026. The auction covered a total notified amount of ₹28,000 crore across two securities: ₹17,000 crore of 7.06% GS 2041 and ₹11,000 crore of 7.43% GS 2076.
Cut-off prices and yields
For the 7.06% GS 2041, the cut-off price was ₹99.93, corresponding to a yield to maturity of 7.0668%. For the 7.43% GS 2076, the cut-off price was ₹98.22, corresponding to a yield of 7.5674%.
RBI's separate full-auction result showed weighted average prices of ₹99.96 for the 2041 security and ₹98.38 for the 2076 security. The corresponding weighted average yields were 7.0635% and 7.5548%, respectively.
Competitive demand exceeded the notified amount
Competitive bidding was substantially higher than the amount on offer. RBI received 264 competitive bids for the 2041 security, amounting to ₹43,115 crore, against the ₹17,000 crore notified amount. Of these, 141 bids were accepted for ₹16,940.69 crore.
For the 2076 security, RBI received 160 competitive bids amounting to ₹26,354 crore against the notified ₹11,000 crore. It accepted 42 competitive bids for ₹10,984.80 crore.
Non-competitive bids and allotment
For 7.06% GS 2041, eight non-competitive bids totaling ₹59.31 crore were received and accepted. For 7.43% GS 2076, four non-competitive bids totaling ₹15.20 crore were received and accepted. Together with the competitive allotments, the total amount accepted matched the notified amounts of ₹17,000 crore and ₹11,000 crore.
No devolvement on primary dealers
RBI reported nil devolvement on primary dealers for both securities. The underwriting notified amount was ₹17,000 crore for the 2041 security and ₹11,000 crore for the 2076 security, and the corresponding underwriting amount accepted from primary dealers was the same.
Why the result matters
Government-security auction cut-offs are closely watched by treasury teams, banks, debt investors and finance professionals because they provide a market-clearing reference for sovereign borrowing at specific maturities. The longer 2076 security cleared at a materially higher yield than the 2041 security, consistent with the different maturity profile and pricing of the two instruments.
The auction result is a market outcome rather than a change in RBI regulation. Professionals using the data for valuation, treasury decisions or accounting analysis should rely on the official RBI auction releases and the relevant security terms.
