RBI Announces ₹24,000 Crore Treasury Bill Auction for August 27; Retail Bids Allowed on Non-Competitive Basis

The Reserve Bank of India has announced a ₹24,000 crore auction of Government of India Treasury Bills to be held on 27 August 2026, covering 91-day, 182-day and 364-day maturities.
The auction will be price-based using the multiple-price method. Successful bidders will settle their purchases on 28 August 2026.
Notified amounts by maturity
- 91-day Treasury Bills: ₹9,000 crore
- 182-day Treasury Bills: ₹8,000 crore
- 364-day Treasury Bills: ₹7,000 crore
Together, the three maturities take the total notified amount to ₹24,000 crore.
Bidding window on August 27
RBI's release states that electronic bids must be submitted through the Bank's E-Kuber system on August 27. The competitive bidding window will run from 10:30 am to 11:30 am, while non-competitive bids will be accepted from 10:30 am to 11:00 am.
Results are scheduled to be announced on the auction day itself. Successful bidders must make payment on August 28.
Retail investors can participate
RBI states that individual investors can participate on a non-competitive basis, including through the RBI Retail Direct portal. For retail investors, allocation under the non-competitive route is restricted to a maximum of 5% of the notified amount.
State Governments, Union Territories with legislatures, eligible provident funds, designated foreign central banks and other persons or institutions specified by RBI may also participate on a non-competitive basis. RBI notes that non-competitive allocation for the eligible categories is outside the notified amount, subject to the applicable scheme and conditions.
Framework governing the sale
The sale is subject to the terms and conditions in the Government of India's General Notification F.No.4(2)-B(W&M)/2018 dated 26 March 2025, as amended from time to time.
