What has changed
The Institute of Company Secretaries of India has invited eligible members to empanel as General Observers for the October 2026 session of the Company Secretary Executive Entrance Test. The General Observer portal opened on 10 August 2026 and is scheduled to close on 31 August 2026.
October 2026 CSEET schedule
ICSI's announcement states that the October session will be conducted at examination centres in India and abroad from 1 October to 6 October 2026. Papers are scheduled on 1 October for Business Communication, 3 October for Fundamentals of Accounting, 5 October for Economic and Business Environment, and 6 October for Business Laws and Management. The notice lists no examination on 2 and 4 October.
Who can apply as a General Observer
The Institute has prescribed a detailed eligibility framework. Among other conditions, an applicant must be an ICSI member, must be between 25 and 65 years of age on the date of application, and must have held membership for more than three years without a break. The applicant must also ensure that specified relatives and trainees are not appearing from the examination centre for which the member seeks appointment.
The notice further says the applicant should not be appearing in an ICSI examination, should not be associated with the Council, Regional Council or Managing Committee of an ICSI Chapter, and should not be associated with ICSI oral tuition classes or private coaching or study centres conducting CS courses. The announcement also excludes counsellors or CS Mitrs and persons against whom disciplinary or criminal proceedings are pending.
Honorarium and application process
ICSI states that a General Observer will be paid an honorarium of Rs. 1,400 per day for duty, with no other allowance admissible. Applications are to be submitted through the official ICSI Observer Portal; requests through other modes will not be considered.
The activity schedule says observer duties are expected to be allotted to eligible members on 10 September 2026. Credentials and related communication will be sent using the email address and mobile number available in the member's ICSI membership data, so members should ensure those details are current before empanelling.
Practical takeaway
Eligible ICSI members interested in serving as General Observers for the October 2026 CSEET should review the full conflict and eligibility conditions and complete empanelment through the official observer portal by 31 August 2026. Appointment is not automatic: ICSI states that allotment is at the Institute's discretion and empanelment must be done afresh for each CSEET session.
