Accountabilities
- Through Athene, our retirement services business, we specialize in helping clients achieve financial security by providing a suite of retirement savings products and acting as a solutions provider to institutions.
- This role is designed for a tax professional with strong technology capabilities who can independently own workstreams, build practical automation solutions, and apply a working knowledge of corporate income tax concepts to improve data quality, controls, efficiency, and scalability.
- The position will have a significant focus on ONESOURCE Tax Provision and ONESOURCE Income Tax as the organization expands its use of these platforms over the next one to two years.
- The role will primarily support U.S. federal tax processes and may also support state and Bermuda tax processes.
- Own assigned tax technology and process-improvement workstreams from requirements gathering through design, build, testing, implementation, documentation, and ongoing support.
- Build and maintain automation solutions that replace or reduce manual spreadsheet-based processes across tax provision, compliance, data preparation, reconciliations, and reporting.
- Partner with tax stakeholders to understand process requirements, ask relevant tax and data questions, and translate business needs into scalable, controlled technology solutions.
- Develop solutions using Microsoft 365 tools, Power Platform, Power BI, and approved artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Microsoft Copilot.
- Evaluate and apply emerging technologies, including generative AI, to appropriate tax use cases while maintaining strong controls, documentation, reviewability, and data governance.
- Support quarterly and annual income tax close processes, including data preparation, validation, reconciliations, workpaper development, and issue resolution.
- Develop and maintain process documentation, standard operating procedures, control documentation, user guides, and training materials for tax systems and automation solutions.
- Provide training and ongoing support to tax users to promote adoption, consistent execution, and effective use of new tools and processes.
- Assist with system implementations, enhancements, integrations, testing, and technology rollouts, including coordination with external consultants.
- Contribute to other tax technology, transformation, and special projects as needed.
- Support the configuration, administration, optimization, and ongoing maintenance of ONESOURCE Tax Provision and ONESOURCE Income Tax, including templates, data imports, mappings, workflows, provision-to-return processes, troubleshooting, upgrades, and user support.
- Extract, map, transform, validate, and reconcile financial and tax data from general ledger, trial balance, investment, actuarial, and other source systems.
Requirements
- Relevant experience in corporate income tax, tax technology, tax provision, tax compliance, or a related area; the level may be filled as Senior Associate or Manager based on the selected candidate's experience and capabilities.
- Hands-on working knowledge and practical experience with both ONESOURCE Tax Provision and ONESOURCE Income Tax and/or Corptax.
- Familiarity with ASC 740, corporate income tax compliance, consolidated federal income tax returns, book-to-tax adjustments, and related tax accounting concepts.
- Demonstrated ability to build technology-enabled solutions and automate tax or finance processes, rather than solely define requirements or manage projects.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including advanced Excel capabilities, and working knowledge of Microsoft Power Platform and Power BI.
- Practical familiarity with artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Microsoft Copilot, including the ability to identify and develop appropriate business use cases.
- Experience working with large and complex financial datasets, including data extraction, mapping, transformation, validation, reconciliation, and control design.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
- Experience within financial services, insurance, retirement services, or another regulated industry.
- Experience supporting ONESOURCE system implementations, upgrades, integrations, provision-to-return processes, or system administration.
- Knowledge of SQL, Python, APIs, or other data integration and automation technologies.
- Experience with Alteryx or similar workflow automation tools.
- Experience with U.S. state income tax or Bermuda tax processes.
