About MBA Finance Fresher Jobs

Entry-level finance hiring for MBAs runs on two calendars. Campus recruiting is packed into a few weeks a year and favours front-office, consulting and large-bank programmes. Off-campus hiring runs all year: banks, NBFCs, the Big 4 and in-house finance centres open analyst seats whenever teams grow or people move up, often several at once in the same team. This page keeps only roles marked fresher or up to two years, which is where most first jobs sit, from credit and risk analyst seats to advisory, treasury support and finance operations.

Campus brand matters in the first job, particularly for consulting and front-office roles. Off campus, recruiters lean heavily on evidence: an internship that involved real analysis, a financial model you can walk through, Excel and a BI tool, and a clear reason for choosing the function. A CFA Level I pass or FRM Part I strengthens a profile for research, risk and treasury. Most listings state the experience band, and many entry-level roles ask for the degree to be completed by the joining date, so check that line before applying.

MBA Finance Fresher Jobs: frequently asked questions

Which entry-level roles hire MBA Finance freshers in the largest numbers?

Analyst roles in FP&A and business finance at global in-house centres, credit and risk analyst roles at banks and NBFCs, advisory analysts at the Big 4 and consulting firms, and finance operations roles at large service providers. Research and investment banking support teams at global banks hire freshers too, in smaller numbers. The “Current job functions” list on this page shows which of these have live openings.

My campus placement did not work out. What now?

This is common and recoverable, because most finance hiring happens off campus through employers’ own career sites. Apply to listings marked zero to two years within the first few days of posting, tailor your CV to one function at a time, and lead with your internship and a model or analysis you can discuss. Our step-by-step plan for the first finance job after an MBA covers the rest.

What do interviewers ask MBA Finance freshers?

Expect a walk-through of your internship, questions linking the three financial statements, a valuation or ratio question, and often an Excel or case exercise. FP&A interviews ask how you would explain a variance, credit interviews how you would assess a borrower, and risk interviews test basic statistics. See the MBA Finance interview questions guide for worked examples.

How much does an MBA Finance fresher earn, and how do I compare offers?

Most analyst offers sit well below the packages that top campuses headline, and the MBA Finance salary guide has indicative ranges by role. Fresher offers are quoted as CTC, which can bundle a joining bonus, variable pay, insurance and retention payments, so compare the monthly fixed pay in hand, how much of the variable was actually paid last year, the grade, and any clawback on the joining bonus.

My summer internship was not in finance. Does it still count?

Yes, if you describe it in finance terms. If you analysed costs, built a forecast, priced a product or worked with data, say so with numbers. If the internship had no analytical content, add a project: a company valuation, a credit note on a listed company, or an FP&A-style variance analysis using published results. Employers want proof that you can do the work, and a well-documented project gives it.

Which cities have the most entry-level MBA Finance roles?

Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Bengaluru usually lead, followed by Pune, Hyderabad and Chennai. NCR’s advisory and operations employers hire freshers in batches, Mumbai’s banks and NBFCs hire into credit and risk, and Bengaluru’s GCCs into FP&A and risk. See Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Bangalore.

Should I take CFA Level I while job hunting?

If you are aiming at research, investment or treasury roles, a Level I pass is a useful signal. For FP&A, advisory and finance operations it helps less than strong modelling and communication. If you do register, plan the exam date around a likely joining date. CFA fresher jobs lists roles where the credential is valued.
