About the company
Arm Holdings plc
Arm was founded in Cambridge, England, in November 1990 as Advanced RISC Machines Ltd, a joint venture of Acorn Computers, Apple and VLSI Technology. It designs processor architectures and cores and licenses them as intellectual property to chip companies, which pay licence fees and royalties, rather than making chips itself. Its products include the Cortex-A, Cortex-M and Cortex-X processor families and the Neoverse line for data centres. SoftBank Group bought Arm in 2016, and Arm Holdings plc listed on Nasdaq under the ticker ARM in September 2023, with SoftBank remaining the majority shareholder. Its headquarters is on Fulbourn Road, Cambridge. In India it operates through Arm Embedded Technologies Private Limited, incorporated in Bengaluru in 2002. Arm's Bengaluru office grew out of its 2004 acquisition of Artisan Components, and in September 2025 it opened a further Bengaluru office focused on advanced chip design, including work at the 2-nanometre node. Arm also has an engineering office in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
