An M.Com adds depth in advanced accounting, taxation, corporate finance and research methods to a commerce background, and employers in India use it in a few distinct ways. Accounting and shared-service teams hire M.Com candidates for general ledger, reconciliations, financial reporting and audit support; tax practices and professional firms employ them in direct tax and GST compliance; and banks place them in operations, credit administration and regulatory reporting. Many M.Com holders also combine the degree with CA Inter, CMA or ACCA studies.
Where a listing accepts B.Com or M.Com equally, the master’s degree helps most when you can show what it added, such as a project on financial statement analysis, a taxation or accounting specialisation, or stronger analytical writing. Back it with Excel, an accounting package or ERP, and up-to-date knowledge of GST and income-tax rules. Many M.Com jobs sit at the same level as graduate roles, so read the experience band carefully and look for analyst or senior associate titles if you already have work experience.
