RBI Extends Nasik Jilha Mahila Vikas Sahakari Bank Directions to December 9, 2026

The Reserve Bank of India has extended the regulatory directions applying to Nasik Jilha Mahila Vikas Sahakari Bank Ltd., Nasik for another three months, taking the current period of operation from the close of business on September 9, 2026 to the close of business on December 9, 2026. The extension is subject to review and leaves the other terms and conditions of the existing directive unchanged.

RBI announced the continuation through Press Release 2026-2027/1057. The action is under Section 35A(1) read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, the statutory route through which RBI directions can be applied to co-operative banks.

How the current extension fits the timeline

The original directions were issued through Directive No. CO.DOS.SED.No.S6690/12-22-173/2025-2026 dated December 8, 2025. They were initially imposed for six months, up to the close of business on June 9, 2026.

RBI then extended the period up to the close of business on September 9, 2026 through Directive No. DOR.MON/D-13/12-22-168/2026-27 dated June 2, 2026. The latest action continues the same framework for a further three months, through December 9, unless RBI changes it on review.

RBI says the continuation is in the public interest

The central bank stated that it was satisfied that further continuation beyond September 9 was necessary in the public interest. Importantly, RBI also included an explicit caution: the extension or modification should not by itself be interpreted to mean that the central bank is satisfied with the bank’s financial position.

That caveat matters for depositors, auditors and professionals who track regulatory status. An extension is not the same as a clean bill of health, nor does it amount to a relaxation of the underlying directions. RBI has expressly said that the other terms and conditions remain unchanged.

What professionals should verify now

- Use the live RBI direction as the controlling source. Any operational restriction must be read from the original directive and subsequent modifications, not inferred from the fact that the period has been extended.

- Update compliance calendars to December 9, 2026. The revised date is the next stated outer date, subject to review.

- Do not describe the bank as cleared or normalised. RBI has specifically warned against reading the extension as satisfaction with its financial position.

- Track further RBI action. A review can result in continuation, modification or another regulatory step, so the December date should be monitored rather than treated as an automatic expiry.

For banking and compliance professionals, the latest development is a continuation rather than a new set of operating conditions. The legally important change is the time period: RBI’s existing Section 35A/Section 56 directions now run through the close of business on December 9, 2026, subject to review. Anyone assessing the bank’s permitted operations should consult the original directive and any modifications alongside the latest extension notice.
