Every CA Final result releases a new batch into a market that hires in two rhythms. ICAI’s campus placement, run by its Committee for Members in Industry and Business twice a year, brings large employers to one place for a few days and settles a share of the batch quickly. The rest of the year, the same employers and many that never visit campus hire freshers through their own career portals, referrals and conversion of article trainees. The roles below come from that second, continuous stream.
Where do freshers actually start? The Big 4 and larger firms take the biggest numbers into audit, tax and advisory, usually at senior, executive or consultant level. Banks’ India centres hire into financial reporting, product control, fund accounting and risk analyst roles, often with structured training and sometimes on overseas hours. Corporates run management trainee programmes or hire assistant managers in reporting, taxation and FP&A; NBFCs, rating agencies and insurers take credit and finance analysts. Finance operations centres hire freshers at scale into process roles with clear promotion ladders.
Employers screening fresher CAs look past the result to articleship: the industries you audited, the filings you prepared, the standards and systems you used. Describe that work precisely, apply in the first days of a listing, and compare offers on the role and the team before the package. The guides linked below cover the numbers and the search itself.
The “Companies currently hiring” and “Current job functions” summaries on this page answer this for today, and they change daily. The usual pattern: the Big 4 and larger firms into audit, tax and advisory; banks’ India centres into financial reporting, product control, fund accounting and risk; corporates into reporting, taxation and FP&A through management trainee or assistant manager roles; NBFCs and rating agencies into credit and finance analyst roles. Company pages such as EY, Deloitte, JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America show each employer’s current fresher-friendly openings.
Large corporates and conglomerates run one- or two-year programmes that rotate a newly qualified CA through reporting, taxation, treasury, business finance and sometimes a plant or a business unit before placing them. Starting pay can be a little below a direct assistant manager role, but the exposure, the senior sponsorship and the speed of the move into business-facing roles usually make up for it. A direct role suits candidates who already know the function they want. Ask how previous batches were placed and how many stayed; that answer tells you more than the brochure.
Almost never. Employers count post-qualification experience from the date of membership, so a newly qualified CA is at zero years regardless of a three-year articleship. What articleship does do is decide which 0–2 year roles you are shortlisted for: statutory audit of listed clients points to audit and reporting roles, tax work to tax teams, industrial training in a company to industry roles. Describe it in detail on your CV and apply to the 0–2 and fresher roles rather than to the 2+ year ones.
It narrows a few and leaves most open. Some Big 4 and bank campus shortlists favour first-attempt and rank-holding candidates, so direct applications, referrals and articleship conversion matter more for you than campus rounds. Capability centres, corporates, NBFCs and mid-tier firms weigh articleship exposure and interview performance far more than attempts. After the first job, attempts stop appearing in conversations entirely; what you ran independently in that first role is what the next employer asks about.
Often yes in the first two or three years, and not always after that. Big 4 audit and tax practices train you in documentation, review and client handling, expose you to many industries and make the later move into industry easier, which is why many CAs accept a smaller package there. If the company role gives real ownership of a close, a reporting cycle or a business unit, and the team is strong, it can be the better start. Decide on the work, the manager and the exit options, then the money. The practice versus corporate job guide sets out the trade-offs over a career.
Yes. Direct applications and campus placement run in parallel, and employers do not expect you to wait. Apply to direct openings from the day of the result, prepare for the campus rounds, and compare whatever arrives. One caution: an offer accepted through the ICAI campus process carries expectations, and reneging on any written acceptance damages your standing with that employer, so accept only when you intend to join. The First job after CA guide lays out the week-by-week plan.
The fixed monthly pay, not just the CTC; the realistic value of variable pay; whether provident fund and gratuity sit inside the figure; any service agreement or bond and its duration; the probation and notice period; the exam-leave or study-support policy if you plan another qualification; the work location and whether it can change; and the joining date. Ask for the break-up in writing if the letter does not include it. The bands employers are paying this year are in CA fresher salary in India.
