Finance in Indian organisations covers far more than bookkeeping. A typical finance department runs transaction processing and reporting, plans budgets and forecasts, manages cash and banking relationships, handles direct and indirect tax, and supports audit, risk and compliance. Large employers often split this work between a shared-service or global capability centre that runs high-volume processes such as procure-to-pay and record-to-report, and smaller specialist teams that advise business leaders. Titles usually progress from executive or analyst to senior analyst, assistant manager, manager, controller or finance head, and eventually CFO. B.Com and M.Com graduates commonly enter through operations roles, while CA, CMA, ACCA and CPA holders tend to move into reporting, controllership and specialist positions; CFA and MBA Finance suit planning, treasury and investment work. Almost every employer tests Excel and expects some ERP exposure, usually SAP or Oracle.
