CA Foundation Result September 2026 Likely on 6 November: How to Check, Next Steps

CA Foundation Result September 2026 Likely on 6 November

The CA Foundation result September 2026 is likely to be declared by the evening of 6 November 2026, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) said in an important announcement issued by its Examination Department on 1 November 2026. Candidates will be able to see their marks on caresults.icai.org by entering their registration number along with their roll number. The notice is signed by Anand Kumar Chaturvedi, Additional Secretary (Exams), and covers only the Foundation examination held in September 2026; the Intermediate result for the same session came out on 22 October 2026.

The wording is "likely", which is how ICAI phrases almost every result-date notice. The notice gives the evening of 6 November as the target and does not fix an exact hour, so candidates should keep checking the results site from late afternoon that day.

How to check the CA Foundation September 2026 scorecard

The result will be hosted on the ICAI results portal at caresults.icai.org, the same site that carried the Intermediate result last month. Keep both numbers ready before the link opens: the registration number given at the time of Foundation registration and the roll number printed on the September 2026 admit card. ICAI's notice says the two have to be entered together.

  1. Open caresults.icai.org and pick the link for the Foundation examination held in September 2026.
  2. Enter the registration number and the roll number exactly as they appear on the admit card, then the captcha.
  3. Check the name, roll number and paper-wise marks on the screen, and save or print the result page as a PDF.
  4. Look for the separate merit list link if you expect a rank; ICAI publishes the toppers' list alongside the result.

For scale, the previous session gives a fair idea of what to expect. ICAI's press release on the CA Foundation May 2026 result, issued on 3 July 2026, reported 1,06,144 candidates admitted at 609 centres, 90,217 who actually appeared and 18,124 who passed, a pass percentage of 20.09%. Sakshi Jain of Nashik topped that session with 371 marks out of 400 (92.75%). In the September 2026 Intermediate result, 13.21% of candidates who took both groups cleared both.

CA Foundation passing marks: 40% in each paper and 50% in aggregate

ICAI's FAQs on the CA course set the pass rule: a student must obtain, at one sitting, a minimum of 40% marks in each paper and a minimum of 50% in the aggregate of all the papers. With four papers of 100 marks each, that means at least 40 in every paper and at least 200 out of 400 in total. Both conditions apply at the same time, and the FAQs list no exemption for an individual paper at Foundation level, so a candidate who misses either condition has to take all four papers again.

Two illustrations show where students most often misread their scorecard. A candidate with 62 in Accounting, 38 in Business Laws, 71 in Quantitative Aptitude and 55 in Business Economics has 226 marks (62 + 38 + 71 + 55), or 56.5% in aggregate, and still fails because Business Laws is below 40. Another candidate with 45, 48, 52 and 50 clears every paper but totals 195 (45 + 48 + 52 + 50), which is 48.75%, short of the 200 needed. Neither gets credit for any paper.

Registration in the Foundation course is valid for four years counted from the first eligible attempt, and the FAQs state that revalidation is not permitted at this level. A student who registered for the course several sessions ago should check how many of those four years are left before planning the next attempt.

Passed the Foundation: when you can take CA Intermediate

A candidate who clears the Foundation becomes eligible to register for the Intermediate course through the Foundation route. The timing of that registration decides the first Intermediate exam the student can sit. The same ICAI FAQs require an Intermediate student to be registered for at least eight months on or before the first day of the month in which the exam is held, and they fix the cut-off dates: 1 January for the September exam of that year, 1 May for the January exam of the next year, and 1 September for the May exam of the next year.

For someone who passes on 6 November 2026, the May 2027 Intermediate exam is already out of reach, because its registration cut-off of 1 September 2026 has passed. Registering for Intermediate on or before 1 January 2027 keeps the September 2027 attempt open. Missing that date pushes the first possible attempt to January 2028, for which the cut-off is 1 May 2027. Intermediate registration is valid for five years, and it can be revalidated once for another five years on payment of Rs. 400.

Not cleared: the CA Foundation January 2027 exam form closes on 16 November

Students who do not pass have very little time. The online exam form for the January 2027 Foundation and Intermediate examinations opens on the Self Service Portal on 3 November 2026, three days before the expected result. As reported when ICAI announced the January 2027 schedule, the last date to apply without late fee is 16 November 2026, and the window with late fee runs until 19 November 2026. A correction window for changing the exam city or medium is open from 20 to 22 November 2026. The guidance notes, fee chart and city list for the session are on ICAI's January 2027 examination page.

The table below puts the dates that matter for a September 2026 Foundation candidate in one place.

The January 2027 Foundation papers are scheduled for 3, 5, 7 and 9 January 2027 from 2 pm. Papers 1 and 2 (Accounting and Business Laws) run for three hours until 5 pm, and Papers 3 and 4 (Quantitative Aptitude and Business Economics) run for two hours until 4 pm. A candidate who fails narrowly and intends to apply for verification should not wait for that outcome before filing the January form, because the verification process will run well past 19 November.

Verification of marks and certified copies of answer books

ICAI does not re-evaluate answer books. Under Regulation 39(4) of the Chartered Accountants Regulations, 1988, the institute checks whether any question or part was left unvalued, whether there is a totalling error in any question or on the cover page, and whether the stepwise marks match the question-wise totals carried to the cover page. According to ICAI's FAQ on certified copies and inspection of answer books, applications for certified copies must reach the institute within 30 days of the declaration of the result, no late application is accepted, and the office verifies each answer book on its own before releasing the copy. If the result is declared on 6 November, that 30-day window closes in the first week of December 2026.

The same FAQ says ICAI tries to supply certified copies within 30 days of receiving a complete application, and that fees are not refunded even when verification changes the marks. A candidate who spots a discrepancy in the copy that falls within the scope of Regulation 39(4) can write to the Deputy Secretary (Exams) within 30 days of the letter sending the copy. Candidates who want copies should check the ICAI website after the result for the fee and the application link for the September 2026 session, and file well inside the 30 days.
