ICAI to Declare CA Intermediate September 2026 Result by Evening of 22 October

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India expects to declare the result of the Chartered Accountants Intermediate Examination held in September 2026 by the evening of Thursday, 22 October 2026. The Examination Department's announcement of 14 October 2026, signed by Additional Secretary (Exams) Anand Kumar Chaturvedi, says the result will be hosted on caresults.icai.org and that candidates will need both their registration number and their roll number to open it. ICAI has given no clock time beyond "evening", and its phrasing, "likely to be declared", leaves room for the date to move, so 22 October is an expectation rather than a fixed commitment.

The September 2026 Intermediate papers were held between 1 and 12 September 2026 in the 2 pm to 5 pm session. Candidates who had points to raise about the question papers had until 17 September to send them to the Examination Department, a window described in the earlier note on question-paper observations for the September 2026 Intermediate and Foundation exams; that process is closed and has no bearing on the result timeline.

Checking the CA Intermediate result on caresults.icai.org

Keep the registration number and the roll number from the admit card at hand, because the results portal accepts nothing else. For the May 2026 cycle ICAI published the statement of marks on the same portal alongside the pass or fail status, so there was no separate wait for paper-wise marks, and the September cycle is expected to follow the same pattern. The announcement says nothing about email or SMS delivery or a merit list on result day; the all-India rank holders are normally named in the press release that accompanies the declaration.

Pass marks and the 60-mark exemption

Under the ICAI FAQs on Examinations, a candidate passes a group by scoring a minimum of 40 per cent in each paper of the group and a minimum of 50 per cent in the aggregate of all papers of that group. A candidate appearing in both groups together passes by meeting that test in each group, or under the combined-aggregate alternative the FAQs describe. A candidate who appeared in every paper of a group, failed the group, and scored 60 per cent or more in any paper earns an exemption in that paper; the exemption holds for the next three examinations whether or not the candidate appears in them, no fresh exemption is granted in that group while one is still valid, the exemption is applied automatically, and it shows on the statement of marks with a hash symbol. Skipping any paper of the group forfeits the exemption even where the papers attempted crossed 60.

Illustration: a Group I candidate scores 62, 38 and 55 out of 100 in the three papers. The aggregate is 155 out of 300, or 51.67 per cent, which clears the 50 per cent bar, but the 38 in the second paper is below the 40 per cent minimum, so the group is failed. The 62 in the first paper earns an exemption that covers the January, May and September 2027 examinations, and in those attempts the candidate needs only the remaining two papers, with 40 in each and 50 per cent across the group counted with the exempted paper.

Verification of marks and certified copies: the 30-day clocks

Two windows open the day the result is declared. An application for verification of marks must be filed online through the SSP dashboard at eservices.icai.org within a month of the declaration, at ₹100 per paper subject to a ceiling of ₹400 for all papers of a group or both groups, with bank details entered for the refund that follows automatically if marks change. Only one online verification application is allowed per roll number, so the paper selection has to be final at the first attempt, and the control number on the successful-submission page is the reference for any follow-up. ICAI says the verification outcome can take about four weeks; a candidate who has heard nothing 15 days before the next examination can write to the Examination Department.

The application for inspection or certified copies of answer books has to be filed within 30 days of the declaration, and the FAQs state that there is no provision for a late application. ICAI aims to supply the copies within 30 days of receiving a complete application, and the fee is not refunded in any circumstance. A result declared on 22 October therefore puts both deadlines in the third week of November 2026, on or about 21 November; candidates should work from the date actually shown on the result rather than the expected one.

May 2026 Intermediate pass percentages as the benchmark

The last Intermediate result, declared on 24 June 2026 for the May 2026 examination, gives the only recent yardstick. ICAI's press release on the May 2026 Intermediate result recorded 1,53,862 candidates admitted across 611 centres in India and abroad, with the following outcome.

GroupCandidates appearedCandidates passedPass percentage
Group I91,2379,35010.25%
Group II64,38110,37216.11%
Both groups33,3042,8208.47%

Shardul Shekhar Vichare of Dombivali topped the May 2026 examination with 531 out of 600 (88.50 per cent), followed by Abhinav Satheesh of Kochi with 530 and Teerth Jain of Mumbai with 519. Group II has run at a higher pass rate than Group I in that cycle, and the both-groups figure is the one to compare for candidates who sat all six papers in September.

January 2027 Intermediate dates for candidates with a group left

ICAI has already published the schedule for the January 2027 Intermediate and Foundation examinations. Group I papers fall on 2, 4 and 6 January 2027 and Group II papers on 8, 10 and 12 January 2027, each from 2 pm to 5 pm with 15 minutes of reading time from 1:45 pm. Foundation papers are on 3, 5, 7 and 9 January 2027, with Papers 1 and 2 running three hours and Papers 3 and 4 two hours. ICAI has said the schedule will stand even if a government holiday is declared on an examination day, and that centres will operate where enough candidates opt for them. The examination form window for January 2027 will be notified separately, so a candidate who narrowly misses a group on 22 October has the dates but should watch the announcements page for the form and late-fee dates before planning the next attempt.
