GST Collection October 2026

Gross GST collection for October 2026 stood at ₹2,31,290 crore, 22.9% higher than the ₹1,88,125 crore collected in October 2025, according to the provisional monthly report released by the GST Network on 1 November 2026. After refunds, net GST revenue came in at ₹2,03,356 crore, up 25.6%. The report, titled "GST Gross and Net Collections as on 31/10/2026", carries figures up to 31 October and states that the numbers may change slightly on finalisation.

The growth is well ahead of September's, and it is lopsided. GST on imports rose 42.2% to ₹72,246 crore, while gross domestic GST grew 15.8% to ₹1,59,044 crore. A month earlier, gross collections for September 2026 were a little over ₹2.03 lakh crore with growth of 14.7%, as reported by All India Radio News on 1 October 2026, so October added roughly eight percentage points of growth in a single month.

October 2026 GST collection: domestic, import, refund and net figures

The table below sets out the main lines of the October report, in ₹ crore, against the same month last year.

ItemOctober 2025October 2026Growth
Gross domestic revenue1,37,3281,59,04415.8%
Gross import revenue50,79672,24642.2%
Total gross GST revenue1,88,1252,31,29022.9%
Total refunds26,22527,9346.5%
Net domestic revenue1,24,5671,45,03716.4%
Net customs (import) revenue37,33358,31956.2%
Total net GST revenue1,61,9002,03,35625.6%

On the domestic side, CGST collection was ₹42,935 crore against ₹36,547 crore a year ago, SGST was ₹51,340 crore against ₹45,134 crore, and domestic IGST was ₹64,769 crore against ₹55,647 crore. Adding the IGST collected at the border, total IGST for the month was ₹1,37,015 crore, compared with ₹1,06,443 crore in October 2025. The report does not carry a separate line for compensation cess.

Why net GST revenue grew faster than gross collection

Net revenue rose 25.6% while gross revenue rose 22.9% because refunds grew far more slowly than collections. Total refunds were ₹27,934 crore, only 6.5% above last year. Of this, domestic refunds were ₹14,007 crore (₹12,761 crore in October 2025) and IGST refunds on exports processed through ICEGATE were ₹13,927 crore (₹13,463 crore a year ago).

The two net lines in the report are simple subtractions, which helps when reconciling figures quoted in different places. Net domestic revenue of ₹1,45,037 crore is gross domestic revenue of ₹1,59,044 crore less domestic refunds of ₹14,007 crore. Net customs revenue of ₹58,319 crore is import GST of ₹72,246 crore less export IGST refunds of ₹13,927 crore. Because export refunds barely moved while import GST jumped by ₹21,450 crore, net customs revenue grew 56.2%, the steepest rise anywhere in the report.

How much of the October jump came from imports

A quick split of the year-on-year increase shows how dependent the headline number is on the border. As an illustration using the report's own figures:

  • Total increase in gross GST: ₹2,31,290 crore − ₹1,88,125 crore = ₹43,165 crore
  • Increase in import GST: ₹72,246 crore − ₹50,796 crore = ₹21,450 crore
  • Increase in domestic GST: ₹1,59,044 crore − ₹1,37,328 crore = ₹21,716 crore
  • Share of the increase from imports: ₹21,450 crore ÷ ₹43,165 crore = about 49.7%

Imports made up about 31% of gross GST in October 2026 (₹72,246 crore of ₹2,31,290 crore), against about 27% in October 2025. Against September, import GST rose from ₹65,525 crore to ₹72,246 crore, an increase of about 10% in one month. For anyone reading the headline as a measure of domestic consumption, the 15.8% domestic figure is the more useful number. IGST paid on imports is generally available as input tax credit to the importer, so a large part of it comes back as credit against output tax in later returns.

Domestic GST collected in October also largely reflects September business, because GSTR-3B for September 2026 was due by 20 October 2026 for monthly filers. The October report therefore captures September supplies rather than October sales themselves.

April to October 2026: cumulative GST collection for FY 2026-27

For the first seven months of 2026-27, gross GST collection reached ₹14,77,569 crore, 13.2% above the ₹13,05,213 crore collected in April to October 2025. Gross import revenue grew 29.3% to ₹4,44,158 crore, while gross domestic revenue grew 7.4% to ₹10,33,411 crore. Imports have therefore supplied ₹1,00,735 crore of the ₹1,72,356 crore cumulative increase, close to 58%.

Refunds for the seven months were ₹2,08,083 crore, up 16.9%, with domestic refunds at ₹1,18,350 crore and export refunds at ₹89,733 crore. Net GST revenue for the period was ₹12,69,486 crore, up 12.6%. Net domestic revenue grew only 6.0% to ₹9,15,061 crore, against 34.1% growth in net customs revenue to ₹3,54,425 crore. Cumulative growth at component level was more modest: gross CGST rose from ₹2,58,364 crore to ₹2,85,858 crore and gross SGST from ₹3,20,425 crore to ₹3,42,491 crore.

State-wise GST collection October 2026

State-wise figures in the report exclude GST on imports. Maharashtra remained the largest contributor at ₹35,150 crore (up 13%), followed by Karnataka at ₹15,922 crore (18%), Gujarat at ₹13,516 crore (16%), Tamil Nadu at ₹11,661 crore (3%), Haryana at ₹11,529 crore (17%), Uttar Pradesh at ₹10,235 crore (24%) and Delhi at ₹9,298 crore (10%). Among the larger states, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh (₹4,307 crore, 24%), Bihar (₹1,827 crore, 24%), Madhya Pradesh (₹3,768 crore, 29%) and Jharkhand (₹2,821 crore, 31%) grew fastest, and Assam rose 47% to ₹1,934 crore.

Tamil Nadu's 3% growth stands out as the weakest among the large states. Collections fell year on year in Himachal Pradesh (₹704 crore, down 2%), Sikkim (₹221 crore, down 28%), Puducherry (₹179 crore, down 7%) and Ladakh (₹63 crore, down 20%).

SGST settlement to states: October and year to date

After IGST settlement, states and Union Territories received post-settlement SGST of ₹1,03,341 crore for October 2026, 13% more than the ₹91,358 crore of October 2025. Their own pre-settlement SGST for the month was ₹51,340 crore. For April to October, post-settlement SGST was ₹6,82,142 crore, up 15% from ₹5,91,353 crore. Among individual states, cumulative post-settlement SGST rose 28% for Gujarat to ₹58,185 crore, 24% for Haryana to ₹34,740 crore, 20% for Karnataka to ₹59,772 crore and 16% for Maharashtra to ₹1,28,316 crore, while Delhi grew only 3% to ₹23,059 crore.

All figures remain provisional. The September numbers came out on 1 October and the October numbers on 1 November, so the November 2026 collection figures can be expected on or around 1 December 2026. Whether import GST keeps growing at above 40% will decide whether October turns out to be a one-month spike or the start of a stronger second half for GST revenue.
