About CA Jobs in Mumbai
Mumbai is where Indian finance is headquartered, and that shapes what a Chartered Accountant does here. The Reserve Bank, SEBI, the stock exchanges and most large banks, insurers, asset managers and broking houses sit in the city, and so do the head offices of a large share of listed companies and conglomerates. For CAs that means an unusually deep market in financial control, product control, fund accounting, regulatory reporting, treasury, credit and risk, alongside controllership, consolidation and investor-facing reporting roles at head offices.
The geography is specific. Bandra Kurla Complex holds the banks, asset managers, rating agencies and the Big 4; Lower Parel and Worli the corporate head offices, insurers and consulting firms; Nariman Point and Fort the older banks, brokers and established CA firms; Andheri, Powai, Vikhroli, Navi Mumbai and Thane the shared-service centres and company offices. Mumbai also has the country’s largest practice scene, from the Big 4 to national mid-tier firms and boutique tax, transfer pricing and valuation practices, which keeps audit and advisory hiring steady through the year.
Two things stand out in 2026. Global banks keep adding international teams in Mumbai that report for desks in London, New York and Singapore, which creates roles with overseas hours and IFRS or US GAAP work next to the India-facing ones. And regulation keeps the city’s compliance teams busy: insurers preparing for Ind AS 117, NBFCs under tighter RBI scale-based rules, listed companies on BRSR and LODR changes. Read the office location on each listing, because the commute between these clusters is the daily reality of a Mumbai job.
CA Jobs in Mumbai: frequently asked questions
Which employers hire the most CAs in Mumbai, and where in the city are they?
Banks, broking houses, asset managers, rating agencies and the Big 4 cluster in Bandra Kurla Complex; corporate head offices, insurers and consulting firms in Lower Parel and Worli; older banks, brokers and established CA firms around Nariman Point and Fort; shared-service centres and company offices in Andheri, Powai, Vikhroli, Navi Mumbai and Thane. The “Companies currently hiring” summary on this page shows today’s mix, and the employer pages for JPMorgan Chase, Morgan Stanley, Nomura, Citi, Deloitte and EY carry the largest numbers of Mumbai roles most weeks.
Do “bank” jobs in Mumbai mean Indian banking, or global teams working for overseas desks?
Both, and the difference matters more than the job title. Indian banks, NBFCs, insurers and asset managers hire CAs for financial control, RBI and SEBI reporting, credit, treasury and internal audit on Indian hours with Indian products. Global banks run two kinds of team here: India-facing businesses, and large international groups that handle product control, fund accounting, regulatory reporting and risk for desks in London, New York or Singapore, often under IFRS or US GAAP and sometimes on those time zones. The listing’s team description and any mention of overseas stakeholders usually tell you which it is; ask directly in the interview if it does not.
What reporting and compliance work is specific to Mumbai?
Because the regulators and the exchanges are here, Mumbai teams own the returns and filings other cities only feed into: RBI regulatory returns for banks and NBFCs, SEBI and stock exchange filings for listed companies, LODR and BRSR reporting, mutual fund and AIF reporting under SEBI rules, and IRDAI returns for insurers, with Ind AS 117 preparation now a live project at most insurers. These roles reward CAs who read regulations closely and can run a filing calendar without reminders, and they progress towards head of financial reporting and compliance leadership.
Is Mumbai the right city if I want deals, investment banking or equity research?
It is the only Indian city where all of those exist at scale. The usual entry points for a CA are transaction advisory and financial due diligence at the Big 4 and boutique firms, valuation teams, credit rating agencies and mid-market investment banks, which value financial statement depth. Front-office roles at large investment banks and research desks are highly competitive and tend to want deal exposure, strong academics or CFA progress. A realistic route is two or three years in audit, due diligence or ratings in Mumbai, then a move. See corporate finance jobs, advisory jobs and the financial due diligence career guide.
Mumbai or Bengaluru — how do the two markets differ for a CA?
Mumbai is financial services, listed-company head offices and deals; Bengaluru is global capability centres, technology companies and start-ups. A CA who wants Indian markets exposure, regulatory reporting, treasury or transactions is better placed in Mumbai; one who wants international reporting, product control for global desks or technology finance will find more of it in Bengaluru, usually with lower rent. Pay at the top end is similar; mid-career growth in financial services tends to be faster in Mumbai. Compare the markets on CA jobs in Bangalore.
How do CAs actually afford Mumbai in the first years?
By living along the suburban lines rather than near the office. Rent close to BKC, Lower Parel or South Mumbai absorbs a large share of a first salary, so most early-career CAs live on the Western line between Andheri and Borivali, on the Central line towards Thane and beyond, or in Navi Mumbai, and commute an hour or more. Hybrid days change the calculation, so ask about them. Work out take-home pay after rent and travel before comparing a Mumbai offer with one elsewhere; the headline packages here are among the highest in India, but so is the cost of being near the work.
Does the Mumbai practice scene still matter if the big money is in banks?
Very much. Mumbai hosts the largest offices of the Big 4, the head offices of several national mid-tier firms, and a dense layer of boutique practices in transfer pricing, international tax, valuation and forensics that hire CAs at senior and manager level and offer partner-track careers. For freshers, Mumbai audit and tax practice remains the most common first step before a move into financial services; for experienced CAs it is where specialist advisory careers are built. Openings in those streams are on audit jobs, tax jobs and transfer pricing jobs, and the city’s fresher roles on CA fresher jobs in Mumbai.
